Courtesy of Past Commodore Linda Raymond, here is a list of the top ten reasons to join the Royal Savage Yacht Club:
10. Low Cost - The annual dues are $ 50 per family/boat. A single membership covers an entire family including any children residing in the member's house. If two or more individuals own a single boat, the $50 membership covers all the owners. Dues are due and payable each year at the end of October for the following season.
9. We have an official Club Burgee - the club burgee is a swallow tailed blue with a yellow outline of the schooner Royal Savage (see the upper corners of this page) . The cost of the burgee is $25. You can get a burgee at the ship's store at the Point Bay Marina.
8. Great Parties - We have a number of social functions throughout the year. There are generally four dinner functions (Launch Party, Chicken BBQ, Change of Watch Dinner and Annual meeting, and the Mid Winter Raft up). We also have a number of breakfasts and desserts.
7. Club House Access - Fondly known as the "Meeting Place", the clubhouse, located at the Point Bay Marina, is available to any member. There are several BBQ grills outside and a large refrigerator and a freezer inside. There are tables and chairs and a toaster and microwave plus a TV & VCR for your use. There is an extensive library of paperback books plus nautical reference books. We also have a power washer plus a sump pump. Contact any of the officers for information on how to gain access to the "meeting place'.
6. Free Events - all the breakfasts and desserts as well as several other functions are at no cost to members.
5. Fun Group of People with a Common Interest in Boating - Even though a few members do not actually own boats, we all share a common enjoyment of boating. Many of the members keep their boats at the Point Bay Marina but several do not. We enjoy sharing experiences on the water and continuing to improve our knowledge of boating safety.
4. Use of Moorings - There are five club moorings, three in Converse Bay and two in Porter Bay. They are identified with the letters "RSYC" and are available to any club member on a first come first served basis. There is no sign up or reservation system. Please fly your RSYC burgee when you use the moorings. If you raft up with friends, that increases the number of members who can enjoy the moorings.
3. Lots of Events to choose from - We have a number of social events, a "fast sail" program, an annual "round raft" raft up, many impromptu cruises, pot luck meals and raft-ups, and a major scheduled one week club cruise.
2. A Great WEB Site to Keep You Informed - that would be this web site. We try to keep it up to date so the latest schedule and "fast Sail" results are posted. We are constantly adding more information and links and photos to the photo album. The web site is www.rsyc.org (clever, huh?)
1. 10% off Point Bay Store Purchases with a Current Yacht Club Card (excluding food) - The folks at the point Bay Marina have excellent prices to begin with, comparable to any catalog price. You can get an additional 10% off any purchase (excluding food) by showing your RSYC membership card. Note - starting in 2007, club membership will also entitle you to a reduced rate ($50 for members as opposed to $75 for non members) for access to the high speed wi-fi transmitter.
