RSYC holds a series of eight "fast-sail" events throughout the sailing season. To make the events competitive, boats are handicapped using a PHRF rating system, and the maximum head sail size allowed is a 150% Genoa (no spinnakers permitted). Most events are held following Saturday morning coffee hours (or following a Friday night dessert) , and take place near Point Bay Marina. Every boat participating in a fast-sail will receive one point. First place boat will receive 10 points and the last place boat will receive 1 point. Points for all other participating boats will be pro-rated from 1 to 10 based upon the number of boats participating. The overall seasonal winner will have its boat name and captain's name engraved on the club's "John Donnelly Fast Sail Trophy".
